I have been deeply saddened by the loss of my friend Jason. Jason was my manager when I returned to KCOM in the early 2000s. I had known him for many years, from back when he started at KCOM as a graduate in the NMC in Hull. Back then we had lots of laughs and incidents. Years later, when I worked for him, he was the kindest and most caring manager anyone could have wished for. He was always concerned with our wellbeing. We would share many a joke and a story. Fridays were spent seeking out the best fish and chip shops in the Wakefield area. We'd visit a different one each week. We attended many meetings and training courses together. I remember a service review with Nortel in Harlow. Unable to get into a decent hotel, Jason suggested that he, Jonathan Fowler and I book into The Green Man. We duly went ahead. We'd been delayed on the way, and were starving by the time we arrived. On checking in, we were told that the kitchen had closed. Jason appealed to the staff who said that they would see what they could do to 'rustle something up', and told us to take a seat in the restaurant, which was deathly quiet. Sometime later the food arrived: pasta in a tomato sauce. Beggars can't be choosers, we thought and duly tucked in. As soon as we took the first bite, it was obvious that the sauce was, in fact, tomato ketchup! Our disappointment with the meal was nothing compared to the three of us jumping out of our chairs in unison, as a mouse ran across our feet under the table! This was just one of the memories that come to mind when thinking of Jason. during those many nights away, we would share stories of our families. Michelle, Lauren and Alex were never far from his mind. He was besotted with, and very proud of his family and their achievements. I will miss my friend deeply. The pictures on this page represent perfectly the man Jason was: a warm, generous and lovely person, whom I am very proud to have had in my life. Jason almost always had a warm smile and a twinkle in his eye. Rest in peace dear friend.
