As a salty dog in the HPT lab in Utrecht I knew Janos from my first arrival in Utrecht, in 1983 and possibly from before. His work on dynamic recrystallization of many wet salt rocks and analogues was fascinating, with memorable videos. A subject that he continued to make contributions to over the many years in Utrecht and beyond. He left his mark on the HPT deformation machines too (bischofite salt was particularly corrosive!). To lose him in such a tragic way is a terrible shame. We shall miss him greatly. My thoughts go out to family and friends.
