Ian was always considerate of other people and their views and had the highest professional standards.
I would like to express my deepest sympathies to Ian’s family, friends and colleagues

I met Ian in 1972 through Southampton University Caving Club and enjoyed his company immensely both above and below ground. He was always calm and cheerful with a great sense of fun. I remember that back in those days of homemade wetsuits his had a completely pointless devilish tail that swished behind as he crawled along. A lovely guy of whom I have nothing but the fondest memories. Andy Sparrow
