It is with much sadness that we hear of Ian’s sudden passing. Ian was a positive and talented person, both professionally and as an adventurer, living live to its fullest. I know many will recall him fondly as a rare member of that elite group who change the lives of those around them for the better. Our thoughts are with Ian’s family, thank you for sharing such a warm and kind person with us. Travel well Ian.

I met Ian in 1972 through Southampton University Caving Club and enjoyed his company immensely both above and below ground. He was always calm and cheerful with a great sense of fun. I remember that back in those days of homemade wetsuits his had a completely pointless devilish tail that swished behind as he crawled along. A lovely guy of whom I have nothing but the fondest memories. Andy Sparrow
