Such a sad loss to so many. You were without doubt one of the most special and unique people I have had the privilege to call a friend. A leader, visionary and generous to so many with a magic touch for bringing the best out of people from all walks of life. I had so many fun times in your company, most of them are fairly blurry to be honest. One of my fondest memories is when I was fortunate to gate crash the KPMG EMEA event in Prague back in 2012. A Kafkaesque night out ensued where we were accompanied by a fella who was about 7’ 9” whom you delighted in getting to pose next to me at every opportunity as I came up to his armpit. Thanks for best of times and the worst hangovers – you’ve left an indelible mark on us all and I’ll join countless others in raising a glass to that. May your family find some small solace in the kind words people have had to say. RIP x.

It has taken me a while to accept that you are gone, Herman. I am finding it hard to put in words the impact Herman had on my life. You hired me in KPMG (still remember our first meeting during my final interview in Manchester) and subsequently worked together in EY and Anmut. Herman was genius at work - visionary, strategic with relentless passion for perfection. Beyond work, over the years we became close friends. He would always make time to meet, he would welcome me to his family for braai, birthday celebration in South Africa and Christmas celebration. Herman joined many significant personal moments for me such as my wedding day and was the first friend to visit us in St. Thomas’ hospital when my son was born. Herman was one of the most interesting people to spend time with over a bottle of red and always there to give an advice but never judge. I recall our last dinner, 10 days or so before his untimely passing, we talked about Anmut and the future of our industry. He will be missed by many and I am going to miss one of my best friends. Love and strength to Karen, Gabby and Matt. Rest in peace H.

So very sad - he was so influential in so many people’s lives and careers including my own. He was a kind generous and enigmatic man, colleague, boss and friend. Have so many great memories of starting and growing the BI practice at KPMG. So so many including a drink or 5. One of my favourites was going for lunch at OXO with Herman and Charlie Murphy and Simon Ferriter and being told (many bottles later) that they needed our lovely outdoor table back for evening service. Herman was having none of it and just ordered another 4 steaks. The rest of the evening is a bit of a blur ! Fun fun times. I will miss him and will raise a glass to him. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.

It’s been lovely reading through the memories of others and reflecting on the man we all knew and loved. A shared happiness in those memories at a time of great sadness. I have been surprised at how clear the memories are, particularly given the amount of booze involved in most of them. He created space for everyone, nurturing a sense of belonging at a deeply human level, at a time when the importance of organisational culture and belonging was perhaps less clearly understood. Herman was a real role model in compassionate leadership. He didn’t care for hierarchy and recognised the potential in people. When I started working for Herman he was a breath of fresh air. I remember he had me writing a proposal on Business Intelligence when I didn’t really know what it was. He could have done it himself in less time than he took to coach me through it, but that investment in and connection with people was his priority. When I left KPMG we talked a lot about values. Keeping in touch afterwards he followed what I was up to with genuine interest and donated a very large amount to support Young Roots, a charity supporting young refugees in London, because he cared about the state of the world. Emotional, caring, fun loving, intelligent, a bit weird. He will be sadly missed but will have shaped how so many of us go through the world and the impact we have on others. Love to Herman’s family and friends at this very sad time.

The world will never be the same without Herman. He was always welcoming, generous and had a huge sense of humour. I will remember our discussions about business and life, the non-negligible number of beers we had together, that one night he tried to keep up with Petr's „beer and wine“ pace, the last breakfast we had (and where this picture was taken) and many other stories. But, most poignantly, Herman, you will always come to my mind when someone asks "How are you?" and I will reply using your words "Couldn’t be better". Because the time spent in your company truly couldn’t have been better. Rest in peace. And sincere condolences to your family, friends and colleagues.

I have only heard about Herman’s death in the last couple of days. I am completely shocked and saddened. Herman was a great and human character. I have fond memories of all my interactions whilst at KPMG but more importantly making me feel welcome when I first joined. He was an energetic character with charisma and professionalism at the same time. RIP Herman. Well before your time. My love and thoughts to your family.

Very sad to hear the tragic news and wishing I had been in touch more recently. At Accenture, he was such an inspirational leader - demonstrating kindness, patience and, above all, good humour in everything he did. So many fond memories to share including after work drinks at Old Bailey, touring Tokyo as part of a client visit and, not to forget, our time at WilliamsF1, attending the British Grand Prix, working with Frank Williams and the most epic end of project celebration at Le Manoir Aux Quatre Saisons. How much was that bottle of wine?!! You will truly by missed by everyone who has had the pleasure of knowing you. Thank you for being such a great mentor and friend. My deepest condolences to his family.

Such a shock and so awful. Herman was intelligent, emotional, generous, and fun. We had a blast at his and Karen’s 50th party, which is where this pic was taken. I learned a lot in the relatively short time that I worked with Herman and enjoyed seeing how he inspired our clients. Our condolences to Karen, Gabby, Matthew and friends. Ed & Nona

What a loss! Herman was able to make everybody feel special and taken care of. I remember fondly how at my first Braai he immediately remembered my name, was curious about me as a person - and insisted on drinking only the finest wine! He lived life to the fullest and taught us to follow him in the same spirit!

Such heart-breaking news. Herman was such an inspirational man and mentor who will be terribly missed. He went out of his way to help me through some tough times at work and was always there to lend a friendly ear. His parties and socials were always legendary, which reflected his larger than life personality. My condolences to all his family, friends, and colleagues. Gone too soon.

Devastating news to hear. Herman was a one in a kind, a incredible man and a shining light early in my career. I sought his honest advice many times over the past 15 years and I always thoroughly looked forward to catching up with him. The world has lost a really special person.

I have so many great memories of time spend with Herman. Far too many cantered around red wine. But the one that sticks most with me is that at one of his summer bbqs he spent an hour hunting snails with my 3 year old daughter :-) He’s going to be so missed and leaves a big hole in life. Deepest condolences to all his family and loved ones

Hard to believe you're gone Herman Best boss I ever had, first at KPMG and then at EY Always there to listen and offer advice where needed Always laughed at my limited repertoire of inappropriate jokes Always got in touch every quarter to catch up Never known anyone to have returned as many bottles of wine when they tasted fine to me. A true connoisseur. I can't think of anyone who enjoyed life as much Feel thoroughly blessed to have known you and to have enjoyed your company Geraint

I only knew Herman for a relatively short period of time, but his clarity of vision and determination have left a permanent memory and lesson. I am just one of the many that have learnt something from Herman that will be carried for the rest of our lives.

Herman, you amazing man. You came into my life in the such an unexpected way and had the biggest impact on me as a person as I’m sure you did most. Most importantly, you taught me that the richest man in the room is the one with the kindest heart and I will always thank you for that.

Herman, you were a truly special human being. A humble, kind, giant of a man with the most gentle of souls. You had such a profound affect on both Rachel & I even though we only met twice. We cared for you deeply and we know that was reciprocated. Your wisdom and warmth will stay with me forever. Rest easy, Herman. Love Jack

I will never forget the two horrible headaches that you gave me, Herman Heyns. The first in mid 2016 at the OXO Tower when you asked me to come to work with you at EY. The second in mid 2017 at El Vino when you refused to let me leave without saying yes. You are (not were) an absolute legend that touched SO many people, and that will be greatly missed (in this world, but a line queuing up for that good South African red with you in the next). Thank you for the kindness, laughter, unforgettable memories, and permanent liver damage. Your buddy, Dave

You left a big hole in my heart Herman. I will forever cherish every minute I spent with you and all the wonderful things you taught me. You will always be my inspiration. So many good memories to choose from but the top two would be every single EMEA meeting you chaired - those were always the best! You were clear that all of the serious discussions should happen on the first day, since we all knew that the rest would be downhill from there onwards. My second favourite memory is going to a club with you and a few others and we sat for at least an hour purely people watching and coming up with lots of weird and wonderful hypotheses. In our last conversation, you spoke about multi-dimensional people and why you never believed that one side told the complete story. You were multi-dimensional in every regard and that is and will always be, what makes you loved by so many.

Herman is one of the kindest and most generous souls I have known. In 2022, Herman went out of his way to help me get back on my feet and to live each day with fully - with gratitude and purpose. I will our monthly catch-ups; the banter; the wine and the nuggets of wisdom Herman would so casually impart during those conversations. Thank you for being a source of inspiration. Forever in our hearts. RIP. My deepest condolences are with the family.
