Dear Hari,
Just woke up to this message today (June 20th, 2021) that you have already left us....
On June 2nd, I pinged you, if you guys were safe but no reply from you and not even the READ receipt. I was hopping, you must be busy with your daughter's marriage as your niece did one recently. I could be one of those few folks who you must have been sharing all those personal information as I know each event and people around you since 1998 till the Taj at Trivandrum.
We did business together, pitched ideas to investors (KPMG) together. You drove me in your RED Honda City all over Chennai, especially Challa Mall and all those great restaurants. You and I share the same birth date, so we always used to talk a lot about the power of 13. Your Padmini Premiere and our days in carrying Naviga to the Island Ground and all those trade fairs. Your Ambattur office, your poems, your awards, and your dad's crescent engineering - I need another Hari to chew those conversations again. The way, you talk great about people - be it family and friends (the latest conversation on Tamil Director Myskkin) are great examples of how to be rich in heart and humble as a human irrespective of those materialistic success. You kept talking great about Actor Ajith and his school days with you at Asan Memorial, which eventually fired me up to purchase a home next to his house.
You are a visionary when it comes to NAVIGA. Our days with PRESS, Media while launching the same; your strategic move to get it launched through the then Chennai Mayor - MK Stalin and today's CM. When MKS became the CM, I was about call and talk to you that NAVIGA has come to a complete circle - you must meet the CM and do something about it. The way you executed Cartography and Topology to survey entire Chennai for NAVIGA was a humanly impossible task with shoe-string budget, limited resources - a commendable effort.
When the world knew nothing about Google in mid 90s, you launched the first-city map and envisioned to convert it as a GPS. Our days with Anna University and Kashyap Tech were a few examples of your technical prowess and visions. You pitched Naviga at Taj to a large group of investors and one of the listeners was Mr. Srinivasan who later collected all the literature from the presentation and left for the USA. After some time, the same Srinivasan cuts the first payment to Larry Page and Co to start Google Maps. What should one say? For me, it was Hari's Naviga that must have fueled Srinivasan to invest in Google and his digitization dream had had given birth to Google Maps.
You were a true brother when you contacted me and shared your sister's phone number that your brother-in-law Mr. Raghu been admitted at the hospital in Maryland and requested me to visit them. You were a true father whenever you shared your daughter's short films and filmy opportunities including the one from Shaji Karun. You were a true brother-in-law whenever you shared their business ventures and happy, success stories to inspire me and my startups. You were a true son when your mother passed away, but you put up a brave face and carried on - despite being the pet of hers and how she funded all your dreams. The way, you handled your mom's absence, and your tough dad was an example that you were not only easy-going but also gritty when it mattered. There was one person who you never talked about was your wife – I knew, you must have loved her so much that you never wanted to share your feelings about her with the outer world. I pray to God that she gets over and moves on.
Your NAVIGA's tag line that you wrote in 1998 - "you'll never be lost again" surprises me if you were expecting a loss of this kind 25 years ago. I will be missing you man and your encrypted WhatsApp messages. I am sure, your family will get over and move on as you did when your mother passed away...
May your soul rest in peace - my dear friend, philosopher, and guide!!!!
