I’m posting this in honor of Hana who worked for equity on this Martin Luther King,Jr. Day. King, an influential civil rights leader devoted his life to advancing racial equity. Using tactics like organized sit-ins, marches, and peaceful demonstrations, King highlighted issues of inequality and worked to foster change and overcome injustice. While his methods sometimes promoted peaceful civil disobedience, his spirt was that of a humanitarian. I challenge us all to adopt some new habits that may help this new year in our goals towards impacting systemic racism. every action I take is a step forward for the type of person I want to become. If you can master the right actions and the right habits, you can start to form this new positive identity and desired outcome. This is why small habits matter so much and can foster profound change and gradually change the type of person or organization who wants to become antiracist. Adopted that identity, you are not pursing behavior change anymore, you are acting in alignment with the kind of person you already see yourself to be. True behavior change is identity change, because once you change that internal story, it’s way easier to show up each day, saying this is who I am now.
