I just wanted to send my condolences to you and your family having heard the sad news about Gerry.
I am Dominic Newlyn’s mum and have known Gerry since Dom was 8 ( 20 years) and started to play lacrosse at Staples Road School.
Gerry was always so good with the youngsters and was responsible for some of them developing a life-long love of the game. As the PE teacher there, I know the time and effort Gerry put into the sessions. We were a very lucky school.
He was passionate, patient( particularly when Dom was a teenager...) and persuasive. I remember being roped in to make bacon rolls in the clubhouse on a few occasions!
He was a true gentleman in the full sense of the word and I know that the boys and young men who grew up with him had great respect for him.
I know that Dom has found that lacrosse (and the people he has met through the game ) has helped him develop into the person he is today. This can only be down to Gerry and his enthusiasm and encouragement - We are so fortunate to have known such a lovely man.
He will be greatly missed.
Kind regards,
Gill & Colin Newlyn.
