Gerry Wilson

January 17, 1938 - August 5, 2020

Gerry was an incredibly popular figure across the lacrosse community and a great friend to so many at Buckhurst Hill Lacrosse Club and beyond. The epitome of a true gentleman, Gerry will be missed by many. We hope that by pulling together messages of remembrance and celebration, it will go some way to help comfort Jean, Jem and Nigel during these difficult times. These messages will be compiled together and a book of remembrance produced for both the family and for Buckhurst Hill Lacrosse Club, to cherish.

When I joined Buckhurst Hill after leaving university, I was apprehensive about joining a Saturday league team. But, testament to the legacy of Gerry's huge positive impact on the sport, the people, including Gerry himself, who welcomed me into the club were just what I was looking for. A friendly supportive bunch who had mostly been taught by Gerry in their younger years. I have countless memories of him coming over on a Sunday during the summer and offering words of wisdom and some sage advice, as well as astute observations from the sidelines on a Saturday afternoon. When I was captain Gerry was there to offer much appreciated support, whether it be lacrosse or the wider running of the club at committee meetings. Gerry's passion and love for the game of lacrosse will live long in the memory of anyone who has graced Buckhurst Hill Lacrosse Club over the years, as well as the wider lacrosse community.
