Gerry Wilson

January 17, 1938 - August 5, 2020

Gerry was an incredibly popular figure across the lacrosse community and a great friend to so many at Buckhurst Hill Lacrosse Club and beyond. The epitome of a true gentleman, Gerry will be missed by many. We hope that by pulling together messages of remembrance and celebration, it will go some way to help comfort Jean, Jem and Nigel during these difficult times. These messages will be compiled together and a book of remembrance produced for both the family and for Buckhurst Hill Lacrosse Club, to cherish.

LSummer 2003 - Final pop lacrosse game before a big group of us left for secondary school. Gerry has been instrumental in bringing people together and forging lifelong friendships for so many. I still meet up with those who I played with at junior school, and in the current club I am surrounded by players who are primarily friends, and who have been moulded in Gerry's image; kind, fair, and passionate.

I had so much fun playing juniors lacrosse at Staples Road under Gerry's coaching, however when I moved schools and regular football and cricket matches cropped up on Saturdays, I stopped playing lacrosse for a good couple of years between age 11-13. I returned to a training session one Sunday, knowing that this disappearance would be overlooked and I would be welcomed back with open arms. I saw Gerry with a beaming smile, and he called out - "Dom's back! And he's brought an extra 12lbs with him!" - referring to my slight increase in plumpness. It was as much as I expected and probably deserved, but typified the friendly, straight talking Gerry that made so many friends across the sport and beyond.

Christmas meal in 2017 following a narrow loss to EG 'A' which Gerry was able to come and watch. Always a pleasure to have him on the sidelines and to be able to discuss the game with him afterwards. I can be glad he was able to make it down to games over the last few years, but he will be sorely missed in the years to come.

A great man much loved and respected by all that had the honour of meeting him. His support new no limits and if it wasn’t for him I probably would of stopped playing a long time ago. we miss you Gerry.
