Dr Fussum Daniel worked as a Public Health Physician in WHO from 1992 when he joined through the Volunteer programme till his death on Saturday 15th January 2022. He believed in the centrality of health in development and sought to make his contribution through the immunization and vaccine preventable diseases programme. Dr Fussum Daniel had various work experiences in immunization at duty stations – Zambia, Namibia, Nigeria, Serra Leone, Liberia; and the IST/ESA in Harare where he was Team Lead for the VPD programme. Dr Fussum Daniel contributed tremendously at various times to expansion of the Immunization agenda in the region, including partners coordination, leading the RWG/ESA as Co-Chair since 2014. Dr Fussum Daniel was part of the response team for the Ebola pandemic in West Africa, where he discharged his work creditably. He was passionate for Africa to have vaccine manufacturing capacity and capabilities. He was making tremendous contribution to the scale up of COVID-19 vaccination as part of response to COVID-19 pandemic. The Immunization community will certainly miss him as a valued and fantastic colleague.
May God grant his family, friends, and colleagues the fortitude to bear the loss and grant his soul eternal rest.
