I feel privileged to pay tribute to a man who was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend to many many people around the world. Francis was humble, soft spoken but most importantly, God Fearing. A sacred state was always by his side whilst he worked on his patients.
My earliest memories of him was in Mombasa. We lived opposite the Fernandes residence and as a young boy, I would stand in our balcony and watch a constant stream of people go to his home anytime of the day or night. This was a "walk-in clinic". He had this gift of healing broken limbs, arms and facial injuries using his own concoction of herbal oils and a prayer, but I know that his success rate was very high cause he earned himself the nickname - Bone Setter Fernandes.
When he came to England with his wife and six beautiful daughters, he had to sit exams and be certified to practice but he overcame that hurdle with ease and persued his work here in Harrow. I introduced him to many of my friends and they were all flabbergasted when he had finished with them.
All that talent but yet, he was a modest man, a kind human being and I can attribute his "good innings" to the fact that he always looked after himself and took life in his stride. He would very often tell me that the human body was like a car. If you serviced it well and drove carefully, it would last a long time.
I know that Francis is in a better place now and will have my fondest memories.
May his Soul Rest In Peace.
Owen.
