Doña Fabiola Fernanda María-de-las-Victorias Antonia Adelaida de Mora y Aragón was van Spaanse adel. Door haar huwelijk in 1960 werd ze Fabiola, koningin der Belgen. Naar Belgische traditie behield ze na het overlijden van haar man koning Boudewijn I in 1993 de titel van koningin. Zij overleed op 5 december 2014 op het Kasteel Stuyvenberg te Laken. Ze werd 86 jaar.

    Ook in de Zuid Afrikaanse kranten werd aandacht geschonken aan het overlijden van de Belgische koniging. het was algemeen bekend dat ze zeer gelovig was en ze een grote invloed op haar overladen man Boudewijn had. Een van de meest in het oog springende zaken was wel het terugtreden van de koning toen er een wet m.b.t. abortus moest woden aangenomen.

    Koningin Fabiola heeft een sprookje geschreven "De Indische Waterlelies". De meest mensen kennen het van de verbeelding ervan in de Efteling. Ook is er in 1978 een Suske & Wiske van gemaakt "De Efteling Elfjes". Het sprookje speelt zich af in India en verhaalt van een heks die dansende elfjes verandert in waterlelies omdat zij jaloers is op hun schoonheid.

    België heeft "een grote koningin verloren. Ze gaf België "wereldwijde uitstraling". We zullen ons haar herinneren als een grote dame die een plaats krijgt in de geschiedenis van ons land." aldus de Belgische premier Charles Michel. Volgens oud-minister Willy Claes was ze de "ideale partner voor koning Boudewijn, die zijn koningschap als een roeping uitoefende. Zij en Boudewijn waren het perfecte koppel." Aan de andere kant kon het stel moeilijk het verdriet verbergen dat ze zelf geen kinderen hadden. "Dat was duidelijk een thema dat regelmatig terugkwam."
