Fábio Hazin

June 4, 1964 - June 7, 2021

The Permanent Mission of Brazil to the UN extends its deepest condolences on the passing of Prof. Fábio Hazin, who vastly contributed to international negotiations related to fisheries and the Law of the Sea in the United Nations. Prof. Hazin currently acted as Chair of the 15th round of Informal Consultations of State Parties to the UN Fish Stocks Agreement (ICSP). He also chaired the past four ICSP, including the last Review Conference, the FAO Committee of Fisheries- COFI (2014-16), the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (2007-11), the CITES Working Group of Introduction from the Sea (2010-13), and the FAO Technical Consultation on Small Scale Fisheries (2013-14). The Permanent Mission of Brazil to the UN/NY is grateful for Prof. Fábio Hazin's brilliant contributions in advancing a rules-based approach to sustainable fisheries in the international community.
