Along with Eilleen, Steve welcomed the new teachers to Choueifat School with a warm ready smile and a twinkle in his eye which was his trademark. Many a night was spent at the Hutchison where a warm welcome was always waiting, along with a ready supply of alcohol. And Steve never lost that lovely smile.
I have many happy memories of steve but here are two of my favourites.
For one of his special birthdays he decided to have a one garment party! I was fortunate enough to be given the task of testing everyone to check that they really were wearing only one garment. A very enjoyable job I must say. Towards the end of the night Steve decided it was time to prove that he was also only wearing one garment and dropped his whole outfit to the floor and stood drinking naked at the bar! And didn’t lose that smile!
A few years later he came to visit us over in Bahrain when my twins were newborn babies.
Having just woken up and getting ready for a feed I handed megan to steve to hold while I prepared milk. Such is the nature of the man that he gently rocked her as she gazed up at him and promptly fell back asleep,thereby ruining my feeding routine with the twins!
Steve will always be to me the gentle giant who had time for everyone. The world is a slightly sadder place without you x
