My sincere condolences to you Helen and your family. I had such admiration for Eldryd. We met just before I took up my consultant post in 1997 and it is no exaggeration to say that Eldryd transformed my career. He was an inspiration to me, as he was to so many others. He ignited my interest in global health and non-communicable disease, and we spent the next 20 years collaborating and travelling together in Ethiopia. Eldryd's passion for Ethiopia and it's culture was infectious, and I learnt so much from him. It was a great privilege to have known Eldryd. There are so many memories that I will cherish, and as Eldryd said in his last email to me 'those times in Gondar together were precious'. His legacy will live on, but I will miss him.
