A tribute to Stephen A Gittens
For those who knew him personally
Would say he was a man with a destiny.
He went about his life without a fuss
Even in the midst of people on the rush.
Stephen started preaching at an early age
When he used message from the sacred page.
You could tell he was something special
That God would use this individual.
He was called to be an evangelist.
He wasn’t concern, even though it was a risk.
He spoke the word in season and out of season.
Knowing the Word of God was indeed a weapon.
Many were blessed by his ministry.
In small islands and bigger countries.
One particular country was Guyana
And another was the mighty America.
Preaching was not the only thing he did,
He was a teacher in which he was solid.
Many achieved under his care,
And he did it without much fanfare.
He was such a caring person
Very reliable, no matter the situation or condition.
He offered much advice and great counsel.
You knew he was God’s earthly vessel.
Of course, he was not perfect
But he lived his life with much effect.
And even though he has gone from us,
The impact he made was a great surplus.
His legacy he has left is there to see,
I hope that many would venture to copy.
A mentor, friend and a counsellor,
A pastor, a singer and even a benefactor.
He made many friends along the way
That some have remained even to this very day.
One thing for sure, he was never disrespectful
It didn’t matter who was the individual.
Friend to all, but satellite to none
Champion of the gospel, Stephen well done.
Let it be known, he was a Christian apologist
He contended for the faith against many cultists.
Stephen, you surely will be missed
It is difficult even to mention this.
You are right there in Heaven’s shore.
With all of its splendor and so much more!
You are there with Peter, John and Paul
The men you preached about when you were called.
More importantly, you are with Jesus,
Your Saviour, the One so precious and gracious
It will be difficult to fill your shoes
Because you were used to preach the Good News
Of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection
Which are essential for our Salvation.
Only God knows why he took you at this time,
At fifty-nine when one would be at his prime.
Some may wonder why it happened so,
We may guess, but we will never know.
At least not in this present life we are in
We are finite creatures and are prone to sin.
The same God who kept Stephen to the end,
Will not change, in Him you can depend.
My brothers and sisters don’t lose heart
Some day you’ll be with Stephen, not to depart.
He has done his duty, it is up to us
To spread the message of Salvation which is a must.
We will constantly pray for his family
Calling each name individually.
God will be there for them I’m sure
To protect, provide and enable them to endure.
