Jill inspired so many of us at Gilead with her wisdom, friendship and wonderful smile. Her insights and dedication led to the development of AmBisome®, the liposomal formulation, which has saved the lives of millions of people around the world. She championed perseverance, self-confidence in who you are and what you’re able to achieve, and humility even in the face of what might seem to be overwhelming obstacles. Jill empowered women and others to pursue scientific careers, and was a beacon of hope for so many more wanting to follow their dreams in life., Jill leaves behind a truly brilliant legacy that will live on through every patient treated. “I feel that I've been able to reach out beyond just my small community and have an impact on the world” - Professor Jill Adler-Moore

Jill and I first met in 2016, as we crisscrossed India, lecturing on advances in medical mycology in 10 cities for over nearly 3 weeks in 2016. It was an intense tour, where we were constantly on the go. We worked long days where we debated the science, shared professional aspirations, hatched new research ideas, and above all else got to know each other personally. Suffice to say, we formed a close personal bond that steadily grew stronger over time. It did not take much time to recognize that Jill was a rare and exceptional human with a clear North Star; compassionate, generous, humble, possessing good humored patience, endowed with strong purpose, high moral character and a keen intellect. She was recognized globally and locally as a superb researcher, sought after mentor, highly capable administrator, pragmatic microbiologist and cherished friend. She has had lasting influence on legions of students, colleagues, collaborators, scientists and scholars. When we are at meetings together, I would look for her beaming (infectious) smile, always be sure to receive a big hug and then linger for hours discussing data gaps and urgent experiments needed to address important unmet medical needs. Personally, I can attest to the profound influence her work continues to have on medical history; her close personal guidance at critical decision points in numerous experimental designs of pivotal studies and extensive contributions to the literature have provided teams at Gilead to formulate a robust road map of research and program implementation that will directly lead to elimination of misery and death for millions of people-- who suffer from invasive fungal and disseminated protozoal infections, worldwide. In fact, I am confident the legacy of her good works will persist well beyond our individual lifetimes. D.M. Israelski

I had the privilege of meeting Jill several times over my years at Gilead, we brought her to Ireland to speak at several venues over a few days. She was immediately liked by everyone who met her, with her gentle, friendly manner and she had time for everyone in the room, no matter who they were. But I remember our dinners in the evening, chatting about her beloved family and sharing our love of music. I found a piano in the hotel and played her a few tunes, which delighted her and I will always remember her laughter and smiles. We are so incredibly lucky to have known Jill, in the AmBisome team, so lucky that she gave us her professional time and her personal time, and we will all miss her terribly. A bright star has joined the sky with your departure, but our lives are darker for your absence. Thank you to Jill's family for sharing a little bit of her with us and you are all in our thoughts at this terribly difficult time for you all. Susan Lyons (Ireland AmBisome team)

An ode to my friend. I’ve found this hard, I have to say, for I had never wanted to see the day, that I would walk into a conference hall, and not see your beaming smile at all. But for all the precious moments that we shared, all the hugs I had that showed you cared, all the dinners, the laughter and the fun, I indeed was the lucky one. For all the inspiration that you gave, for the many lives you continue to save, for all the teaching, mentoring and friendship too, thank you Jill for being you. My friend, you were beautiful, inside and out, it’s what your legacy shall be all about, but for now sleep well, shine bright in that sky, knowing forever in our hearts you shall lie. Tanya Roberts

I had the pleasure of meeting Jill in person when she came to the UK on one of her visits. Immediately, she had an impact on me with her remarkable presence and infectious smile!! At the time of meeting Jill, I hadn’t been with Gilead very long but she made me feel like an integral part of the wider AmBisome team! Even I didn't have a chance to meet Jill Adler-Moore in person, I can feel her passion, her commitment to educate young generation from the screen. I believe she is an inspiration for all AmBisome teams including myself. I feel also proud to be a part of her legacy which I believe will always live on us.

I was fortunate enough to meet Jill Adler-Moore on several occasions. I remember one occasion when she came to speak at the hospital where I worked at the time. It was an evening meeting and Jill decided that instead of doing a formal stand-up presentation, we would all sit around the table and have an informal Q&A session - and what a fantastic session it was! She shared her insight, vast experience and humorous anecdotes in such a lively and accessible way that we all learned a lot. She seemed to delight in the informality of the meeting and we saw the humility and humanity that was so typical of her. On another much more recent occasion, I met Jill at a dinner meeting at a conference. It was a small group of people and I had the chance to sit next to Jill before and after her presentation. The presentation, of course, was full of the kind of information that only someone who truly knows their subject can impart. It was informative, interesting and showed that as well as Jill's love of AmBisome, she was involved in many other aspects of science and R&D. Talking to Jill after her presentation, I felt like I was meeting an old friend as we discussed families, mycology, science, being a woman working in science and academia and the pleasure and pain of international travel. Her legacy is massive - over 2 million people treated with AmBisome over 30 years, but my abiding memory of Jill is of someone who was so humble and family-orientated. She was as unique as the Ambisome she developed, and will be greatly missed by me and so many people. Rest in Peace. Ruth Ashbee

I first met Jill at the TIMM conference in Nice and we instantly clicked at both a scientific and personal level. and it was as if we had known one another for ages. Her warmth, compassion and charisma were unmatched and It was an absolute privilege to have known her. She was an inspiration to both me and many others not only in the company but in the wider scientific community in which she was held in the highest regard. Good bye my friend, RIP. I remember once many years ago that Jill came to Spain a couple of days to give some conferences organized by Gilead and I discovered how enthusiastic she was but not only on a professional level and on our AmBisome but on whatever topic was involved. In 1995, we were office neighbors; when each of us arrived it would slam the other persons door accidentally. That began a habit of sharing the humor of things in life that do not work quite well, and of my decades long habit of asking her myriad questions relating to fungal biology, liposome science, education, and so many other things... It is very rare that you get to work with the inventor of of such an incredible medicine, it has been an honour and a privilege working with Jill over the years. She has inspired so many of the AmBisome teams around the world with her wisdom, friendship and wonderful smile. Her legacy continues to save the lives of millions of people around the world, and will continue to do so for years to come. Rarely in this industry does one could meet the genius behind the product, but I have been incredibly privileged to have met the amazing and inimitable Professor Adler- Moore at many meetings. What an incredible legacy to leave behind, having touched the lives of millions of people and offered hope to so many facing life threatening fungal infections. I will always remember Jill for her wonderful smile, fabulous sense of humour, love of medicine and her mission and drive to help others. With a twinkle in her eye and a smile to light up any room, Jill was always going to be memorable! I feel very lucky to have had the privilege of knowing the wonderful Jill Adler-Moore for 12 years. A laugh, a moment and some serious science - all fond memories for me of a wonderful, happy and caring family focused lady who has made an indelible print on me and many, many others around the world. I was so lucky to have known Jill for the past 13 years and have such happy memories of when we managed to meet up. My fondest memories are of the times she visited the UK to present to our clinicians and most especially when she came to Scotland. Jill was able to spend some time with me at my home on one of those trips and we had such a wonderful time chatting and laughing about her many global adventures and her family of which she was so very proud. Jill's smile & personality would light up a room & her enthusiasm for her work & life in general was utterly infectious. I miss her so much. Rest in peace my friend. All my love Fiona Duncan xxxx

I had the privilege of meeting Professor Jill Adler-Moore in 2008, the year I joined Gilead. She came to Portugal twice and in 2010 she toured in through Lisbon and Oporto to interested Doctors to learn about its legacy. We produced a book to go along with her slide decj, that I attach, and in the introduction, she mentioned, and I quote: “In summary, it is very gratifying to know that AmBisome has continued to help treat many people, decreasing morbidity and mortality. I am humbled by having had the opportunity to be a part of something that has had such a positive impact on healthcare and has demonstrated convincingly that there is a place for liposome delivery of drugs.” (JAM) 30 Years and counting, AmBisome continues to be this beacon of hope to so many patients, and it is our job to make sure her message is continuously transmitted as we are the torch to enlightened health care workers around the world of this great invention from this Great Lady. I will always remember the first time I met Jill...we were at conference having dinner and she sat opposite me telling us of her travels around the globe. The particularly story that I will always remember was not about work, science or even AmBisome it was about the toilets in Japan where she had a remote control for all the functionality! I have never met Jill, as I joined the AmBisome team one year ago. However, I was struck by how wonderful this woman and scientist was. She is definitely a role model for many women, especially young scientists, and she is an outstanding example of feminine leadership. I feel particularly attracted by her championship in "perseverance," a value deeply linked with the desire to follow our dreams. I feel so thankful to work in the team that supports the "fruit" of her intensive scientific research and to carry on her desire to save the lives of millions of people with AmBisome. I was lucky enough to meet her in person a few times and what always struck me was how humble and unassuming she was. Here was an individual who had indirectly saved and impacted the lives of millions of people, yet she was as happy talking to a room full of students as she was an auditorium full of eminent clinicians. Jill shared the attached picture in her lecture at the Gilead AmBisome 25th anniversary event in London. It was taken in 2001 when coming back after an advisory board in Paris the plane was redirected to Canada because of the 9/11 attacks. Being stuck in a Canadian hotel for 5 days this is where the AmBiload trial was designed by John Martin, Mark Bresnik, Mick Hitchcock & Jill Adler Moore. I don't know who the other lady in the picture is. Great story; talking about serendipity. Will miss Jill's stories and her smile, Gijs Crone
