I remember Peter best of all from the Christmas days we spent every year at the Taaffe-Finn's home at Merrowdown, Oakhill, Somerset. I was very young and always felt rather in awe of him! He was very gentle and kind, always polite to everyone and would occasionally drive us back to Bath, where my mother & I lived. I will always remember him for his cars, which were inevitably a Rover 90. Every time I still see one now, I comment to my wife: 'Peter!'
In latter years we lived in East Sheen, London SW14, not far from Putney, where Peter lived. He would send us a Christmas card each year, signed 'Peter, Putney'! We would like to have felt closer to him, but sadly it wasn't to be. One visit & phone calls to Putney were insufficient, a link to my past that I will miss. Tony
