Peter was the quintessential English gentleman and I was privileged to have known him for many years. He helped me progress my career when I was younger and then we had many decades socialising with others over the bridge table. He shared my interest in bird watching and we had birding holidays and cultural holidays together and with others travelling all over Europe and further afield. He was an extremely generous host and an excellent cook. Many of his friends will recall the years when he rented a gite in the south of France and invited us all down in turns to enjoy French rural life. I hope he realised that he spread a lot of happiness to others during his long life. Julie
