Mary-Louise Jacobson, passed away July 25th, 2023, in her home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, just shy of her 72nd birthday. While born in Penticton, Mary-Lou grew up in Whalley, BC. Shortly after marriage to her first husband, Bruce Jacobson, Mary-Lou moved from Surrey to Lone Butte. After raising their family, primarily in 100 Mile House (1972-1993), Mary-Lou moved back to the lower mainland to work and eventually started up “Harmony House”; where she welcomed countless homestay students into her home. After enjoying many adventures to Puerto Vallarta over the years, Mary-Lou decided that she wanted to live there full time. Prior to being wed in 2017, Mary-Lou and her partner, David, packed up their essentials and immersed themselves in the heart of Puerto Vallarta.
Mary-Lou is survived by her loving husband, David Rowney, son Ken (Monica) Jacobson, daughter Susie (Brad) Corbet and granddaughters Kayleigh, Alexis, and Lauren. Auntie Moo is also survived by her brother Gary (Cynthia) Askeland, sister Betty (Jay) Peever, brother in law John Baylis, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Malcolm Cooper, mother Genevieve Askeland, stepfather James Askeland, older brothers Allan and George Cooper, older sister Sharon Baylis and younger sister Linda Savage (adopted out at birth), sister in laws Kathryn and Anita Parnell, brother in law Lenny Hastie, and niece Andrea Cooper.
Mary-Lou was always the life of the party! She was consistently trying to organize something; whether it be people, a scavenger hunt, or her sitting area. She loved flowers and wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty in the garden or by refinishing furniture. She was happiest when dancing, loved to listen to music, enjoyed playing Scrabble, watched Wheel of Fortune religiously and engaged with all of her “Angels” all over the world. She loved her family and friends fiercely; especially her soul mate, David.
This Fall, as she requested, Mary-Lou’s ashes will be scattered at her favourite Mexican beach spot; where family and friends will listen to live music, eat, sip wine and watch the sunset. A local gathering for family and friends will happen at Betty and Jay’s cabin, at Green Lake, the weekend of September 30th, 2023.
The world will be a lot less vibrant without Mary-Lou in it!
