On behalf of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, I would like to offer our deepest condolences at this very sad point in time where we have lost a dedicated scholar, teacher, mentor, and friend in Dr. Kim. It was soothing to know that he was surrounded by you in his final moments. He was so very proud of each of you and shared so many great stories about your family with all of us.
We know that Dr. Kim’s steadfast dedication to the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Program at Johns Hopkins for the past 20 years would not have been possible without your generosity and ardent support for his work and we are forever grateful.
He was remembered today on a call in his honor to reflect on how he individually impacted each of our lives. He was described by many as: “a gentle and warm person”, “a kind person”, “a true pioneer in CNS infections”, “knew how to encourage you in your own way”, “an advocate for me”, “autonomy to allow you to learn and develop”, “good-natured, kind and fair”, and “ahead of his time and an inspiration.” Thank you for sharing your husband with us and for allowing us to thank him and say goodbye at the end of his journey. We will truly miss him and his keen sense of poignant advice. Because he touched the lives of so many members of the pediatric infectious diseases community outside of Johns Hopkins, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society will also be sending out its condolences to all national and international pediatric infectious diseases physicians in fond remembrance of Dr. Kim.
