I still cannot comprehend that John is not anymore with us. He was one of the key members of European Influenza Surveillance Scheme and later Network as well as multiple global and European respiratory virus projects where we have interacted closely over the past 14 years. He was always kind, funny, inclusive, professional, enthusiastic and forward thinking. His disappearance is a great loss to the global scientific community. I am missing him tremendously already. I want to express my sincere and warm condolences to his family and relatives.
