Dear John, I can't believe this news that I am seeing! You have been a bright spot of support for me personally, and professionally, as worked together on influenza research. I remember the fun days together in St Petersburg, working hard on WHO support missions and also finding the time to have some great conversations walking together during the late summer evenings. I also want to point out your impact and passion for capacity building, supporting the growth of young promising scientists from Africa, who have now become our next generation of scientific leaders. Finally, the world will also miss a true expert in influenza and respiratory disease surveillance and epidemiology. In my mind I knew we had much more fun and work to achieve together. However now your mind is processing that experience which awaits us next, and one day I hope to hear your interpretation of that as well, Sending love and best wishes, Josh Mott
