Four years ago, I had the privilege of working alongside John at Nivel. It began with the RSV ComNet project, but in those four years, numerous projects followed. John was an incredible colleague and a true mentor; I learned a great deal from him. His ability to connect people, in particular, is something I will greatly miss. Many meetings began with John's famous words, "I have a fantastic story to tell," and another line he often used at the end of a sentence was, "zodat je het weet" (so you know). He was also genuinely concerned about everyone's well-being on a personal level. He was thrilled when I told him earlier this year that I was expecting. It saddens me that I won't be able to show him a photo once our son is born. My deepest condolences to Dineke, his children, and family. John, I will miss you tremendously.
