I was deeply saddened by the news of John’s sudden passing. As my supervisor and ‘co-promotor’, John was an incredible source of knowledge and his enthusiasm for new projects or ideas was often infectious. Most of our meetings started with ‘I have got an amazing story to tell’, and it’s those stories and his humor that I’ll remember most. I was looking forward to finishing my PhD soon but his guidance and kindness will be missed greatly in this process, and it’s incredibly sad to think he won’t be there at the finish line. My sincerest condolences for his family and loved ones at this difficult time.
