Walk Around Things Day is on April 4. We’ve all had days when we can’t deal with certain people or situations. Walk Around Things Day recognizes that sometimes, it’s alright not to deal with things head-on. It celebrates the art of strategic withdrawal. Step back, walk around the problem, come back, and address it later. Like all the best things in life, it’s open to interpretation. Celebrate it figuratively by avoiding nagging problems. Bring it in literally by walking around everything. The day promises to help us see and experience the world differently. We know for a fact there are numerous ways to deal with conflict or stress.
Sometimes, the best recourse is to give your mind a break and deal with things later.
The picture is when Hana was part of destination imagination in 4th grade which promotes creative problem solving. Hana remained engaged in this creative process all through school and then at community organizations like the ywca, the university of Minnesota leadership track and then mentorship of young women.
Hana had a knack for problem solving and creative solutions. She could apply solutions to any situation whether it was a house remodel, social justice issue, business deal, or a math equation. She also procrastinated and would often go on walks by the river or in a park. Maybe this was when the problem solving occurred by getting away from the situation and being in nature. The motivation behind her problem solving was most often to make a persons life better. Hana loves people and wants to see them happy. I love you Hana. I miss you and your beautiful creative ways. I wish you were still here with me.
