Today, 25th May is Dad’s birthday. He would have been 83!
Our Dad, Grandad, larger than life, always up to something, constantly on the go, colourful and fun! Dad was creative and funny, always wanting to share what he had. Whenever he was in a room, there was no way he’d go unnoticed!
One of the rhymes he used to quote over the years: 'If myself I know me not, who can know myself for me? If myself I know only, who am I?!' seems fitting here...
Dad originally came to the UK from Panama when he was 19 years old to study, but ended up being inspired by one of his bosses to become a painter and decorator. He discovered a love for it! Over the years, he decorated many homes and offices, and, in his own words, Dad became "a Master painter and decorator".
Alongside this, he was always wheeling and dealing something or other in a bid to make his fortune!
Back in the early days Dad had the nickname 'Rocky' but as he grew older, was more affectionately known by so many, as well as those in his community in Camden - from the market to the bookies, to the barbers, to his home, and even on TV (!) by his second given name, George, and by his life partner and mother of his youngest son, Georgie!
Dad, Grandad, Rocky, George touched the lives of many.
We hope that you will be able to share some of those stories and pictures with us here.
This January, Dad wrote in a book to his grandsons: “I thank the Lord for blessing me with such a wonderful family and friends”.
When COVID restrictions are lifted, we want to get together somewhere in Camden with as many as want to, and celebrate our Dad, Grandad, Georgie, George with you.
So watch this space for more details!
