It seems like just last week when we first met in Nigeria in January 2002 on a polio eradication mission and worked together in Kano, Northern Nigeria together with Mismay Ghebrehiwet, Ibrahim Kone, and the late Helen Mutambo among many others. I had no idea that we would later work together in the East and Southern sub-region for over a decade. Your contributions to polio eradication, immunization, public health in Africa will not be forgotten. Your untimely death has brought much pain and a great sense of loss to your family, friends and colleagues. To the family, I pray that the Lord, God Almighty, wipes your tears and gives you strength to start to cope with this sad loss of your husband and father and, when he ordains, to start celebrating the life of Fussum. Go with God, Fussum, and may your soul rest in eternal peace.
