We will all have our own personal and special memories of the mark Fee left in our hearts and in our lives, and it is very hard for me to be writing this memorial, hearing my own thoughts out loud and trying my best to focus on the happiest times Fee brought me. I am certain of two things, though. Fee would have wanted us all to share our happiest thoughts of our times spent together and, secondly, Fee is still here with us, very strongly in spirit. Fee was such a strong person through and through, in her character, personality, and presence. We are sharing our memories because somewhere, somehow, we have all been touched by Fee being in our lives. So, here’s my story of my best pal Fee.
I met and worked with Fee in 2001 at the Byre Theatre, when we started the same job and instantly clicked as pals forever. We went to all the founders’, benefactors’ and patrons’ events and parties that the new Byre had to offer, and we were soon showing everyone that a party was not a party without the amazing duo. One of the highlights for us was when we met Sir Sean Connery and he came over to say hello. I told Fee I was going to say my name was Miss Moneypenny and she said I wouldn’t do it but dared me to anyway. When he came over and he asked Fee her name it was the first time we were both a little speechless - I know that’s hard to believe! Fee said, ‘It’s Fiona,’ shaking his hand and trying not to laugh. When he asked me my name, I said Miss Moneypenny and he laughed, but Fee nearly peed her pants! Afterwards she said, ‘I really didn’t think you were really going to say it’ and we laughed all night about it.
What I loved about Fee was no matter what I did or how silly it was I got a laugh, a laugh that was so infectious that it just encouraged me to do more. We were great at encouraging each other to do silly things, then treating ourselves to a drink for doing it and saying we deserved it.
Fee was not only loved by me but by my entire family, and she joined many family events with us all. I’m so glad she did as it’s great now to share these memories about her with my family. We have seen each other’s children and grandchildren grow, we have shared photos of them all, and you can tell Fee was so proud to talk about her grandchildren. I was pleased that Fee was here to share my daughter’s hen-do and then her wedding day. The hen-do was hilarious with Fee being the life and soul of the weekend - it’s a time me and my daughter will never forget.
Fee was a great snorer and on girlie trips we shared a room together every time, not because we were best pals but because no one else would put up with it. I didn’t care, I loved her even if it sounded like a tractor was in the room! She laughed at me when I took the Mondays off work to catch up on some weekend sleep.
Fee has taught me life lessons that I didn’t even realize I was learning, and that a best friend is someone who makes your life easier and enjoyable – that no matter what paths you take in life the special bond between you will never break. This is so true for Fee and me.
Fee is there in my prayers every night with my Mum and Dad and always will be. They always say count your blessings, and Fee is one of my blessings that I will always be grateful for in my life. This is my little tribute to her. Thank you, Fee, for being there, and for being you. This one’s for you, Fee. xx
