I came to know Edi when he paid a visit to Caracas and was on his way to his duty station Guasdualito. But I came to know him better when I went on mission to his duty station. We had missions and meals together. While from Sweden, he had already learnt French and was very fluent in Spanish. He was learning Arabic in Guasdualito from some Syrians/Lebanese who had settled in Guasdualito. He was interested in Levant dialect of Arabic. He was a practitioner and training of Muay Thai (kickboxing) and grappling. Mike Tyson was his idol in boxing. He was an all rounded gentle giant. Praise be to the parent who brought up such a person. His tragic demise is a huge loss to UNHCR and humanity. May his soul rest in peace. My deepest condolences to the parents and other close friends, colleagues and relatives.
