REMEMBERING LATE DR. IBRAHIM MOHAMMED IBRAHIM
A lot has been said about late Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Ibrahim either by his fellow Medical professionals, his College mates, others who were oppotuned to have attended the then Ahmadu Bello University School of Basic Studies (SBS) or who had crossed roads either as Medical students or practitioners. All of them are unanimous in their attestation of his humility, decency, exellent character and academic brilliance.
I first met him in Lagos, at the 2004 PPFN Annual General Meeting, where he was then a young Medical personnel of the International Non Governmental Organisation. Although i went there as a Kano PPFN Volunteer, through series of engagements & interactions, he discovered i was from Hadejia Chieftaincy domain. I noticed he took more interest in me, became much closer & more personal. He later confessed to being from same Chiefdom himself. Our relationship had blossomed eversince.
Much later around 2018 we again crossed roads through official engagements between the National Population Commission, (where i was then a serving Director) & various collaborating development partners, including ofcourse Dr. Ibrahim's own PPFN, only this time not only had the organisation moved its Corporate Head Office to Abuja & Dr Ibrahim had now assumed the exalted position of Country Executive Director.
At his invitation, i visited the PPFN Head Office, where he not only took me around the huge, impressive & immensely immaculate edifice, i was accorded the previllage of engaging very Senior Management Personnel of the PPFN, many of whom were already familiar faces to me.
Only about a week ago, precisely on Saturday 26th June 2021, we met at the Al Furqan Friday Mosque, at Nassarawa GRA Kano, where hee went to attend a wedding solemnisation. It was a hugely crowded gathering, making it extremely difficult, except by accident, identifying familiar acquaintances, yet he spotted me from afar, and in his characteristic calmness, meandered to where i was standing, in company of friends, yet without giving himself away being noticed approaching. Was suprisingly suprised to see him simply appeared before me, as always, with customary smile. We greeted & exchanged pleasantries, specifically expressing nostalgic joy in the great strides being recorded on the HDG Platform (a virtual Community initiative, intended to discuss our Communty development challenges chatting an informed course of action). He expressed great optimism in its potencials.
We later bid each other farewell, with a promise to be more regular in our personal contacts. Tragically i never had the slightest premonition that meeting was going to be our last. InnalillaHi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (it is from Allah, Almighty we all hail, and unto Him is our destined return).
The Hadejia Emirate Community, Jigawa State, the Nigeria Development Community, his organisation the PPFN & indeed the Medical Profession have lost a rare gem: descent, humble, unassuming, professionally very sound and a very friendly person. It is a promise ordained, that death is the inevitable end of every living. Its simply a question of how, when and where? His hath come, before its our turn. We pray Allah Almighty, in His compassion & mercy forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds & reward him with an exalted place in Jannah. And when it is our turn, to taste the gruesome pains of death, may Allah show us compassion and mercy. For Allah is truly most compassionate, most merciful to His creations.
