Dear Don,
Early 2018 we met for the first time when Marc, Tom and yourself came over to Brussels Airport as part of the commercial discussions we held when I was still working for one of your airline customers. The meeting was followed by a pleasant lunch whereby we all got to know each other on a more personal level as well. After my relocation to Singapore we kept in touch as a result of which I joined Unilode at the end of last year. Due to Covid our interaction had only been virtual so far and I was looking forward to heading back to Europe later this year for a visit, not in the least to catch up with you in person as well. To my great regret, that first gathering in 2018 will now be remembered as our only one.
My thoughts are first and foremost with your family, friends and beloved ones, whose loss is profound and to whom I offer my sincere condolences. To them I say to cherish the warm and joyful moments you spent together and let those memories fill the emptiness of your passing away.
For our MRO team, and Unilode as a whole, you will be remembered as our solid rock. You were respected for your experience, insights, vision, passion and dedication, but more importantly also for the way you dealt with your team, colleagues, customers and suppliers. You had a natural skill of engaging others and working with people across the board.
There is a saying “choose your boss, not your job”. I had the pleasure of choosing you, Don, as I felt a connection with your exemplary values, integrity, work ethics, leadership style and down-to-earth personality. What you did was always in the interest of the customer, the company and the team, and never with an intention to get spotlights on yourself or to pursue an own agenda. Thank you for the journey together, your guidance, your support and your sense of humour. Too sudden and too early that journey has now come to an end, which is hard to grasp.
Rest in peace, Don.
