Dolores Anne (Dalessandro) Davis, 72, of Sheffield Village, passed away Monday evening, June 22, 2020 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain. Dolores was born December 12, 1947 in New Brunswick, NJ to the late Frank and Carmella (Spaziano) Dalessandro. She spent much of her formative years traveling the east coast from New Jersey to New York, eventually settling in Northeast Ohio. She is survived by her sons Robert Baker, Samuel (Bethany) Baker, James Davis, Christopher Davis; her grandchildren Nora, Scarlett and Beatrice; her brother Frank (Rita) Dalessandro and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Dolores was a loving mother who had a passion for cooking. Her meals were celebrated by friends and family alike. Nobody could make a pizza like Dee and everybody knew this; often coming from out of state just to eat her creations. Dolores was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of the Secular Franciscan Order. She would always lend her time, effort and patience to those congregations she was blessed to be a part of. She had a free spirit, strong heart and tactful mind. She will be sorely missed by her friends and family. A memorial service is planned to be held at a date to be determined later, where friends and family are welcome to come together and celebrate her life. Below is a letter my mother wrote in January to a prayer partner I edited to reflect her passing. I found it apropos for the events that have transpired. Enjoy. Hi, my name is Dee Davis I was 72 years old, a member of St. Joseph Parish who volunteered as an Usher, Prayer, Baker and most of the events. I was dedicated to prayer and trust in God. Sometimes the path to God becomes difficult and sometimes it is a test. I have four Sons, 3 Daughters-In-Law and three Grandchildren, all girls! I was a Secular Franciscan which means I belonged to the Third Order of St. Francis which is a religious Order. The First Order are Priests (Friars); the Second Order are the Nuns (Poor Clares) and the Third Order are Lay People. All take Vows and follow in the Foot Steps of St. Francis to Christ. The Vows of the Third Order are promises to God of Charity, Poverty of Spirit and Obedience to Authorities. I worked for the Fathers of St. Joseph on Case Road in Avon. They have a Retreat Center and are dedicated to helping youth find their way to God. The St. Leonard Youth Retreat Center is a ministry of the Fathers of the Congregation of St. Joseph (CSJ). The CSJ community is dedicated to offering the love of God to the young people of the world. They sponsor four weeks of Soccer Camp every June for boys and girls. They are also home to COR (Christ in Others Retreat Program). I was the Cook for the Community that lives in a very large house. The Community consists of at least two Priests and the Novices. The Novices are from many different countries and are here to study and learn the English language and study at St. Mary’s Seminary to become Priests or Brothers. I started there 15 years ago when the Community was 12 Priests and Novices. That was a lot to cook for and clean after. This year the Community is 5. Every time a new Novice comes it is quite a trial. Most don’t know any English and come from homes of poverty. It was an amazing experience to be with people of so many different cultures.
