Dave Roberts was part of the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD) team for over six years as the Resource Conservation Manager. He was a strong, engaging, and collaborative leader with a deep wealth of knowledge. He was incredibly passionate – an expert in sustainable landscaping, conservation, land use, climate change, ecosystem integrity, anything to do with native and climate appropriate plants – and possessed many more skills that made him invaluable. One of his most significant achievements was the District’s sustainability garden where he championed its development, implementation, and continued management. He was very proud of the garden and how it furthers the idea of integrating sustainable landscaping into our region to conserve water and provide much needed habitat for pollinators and other animals.
Prior to joining LVMWD, Dave enjoyed a robust and highly impactful career as an environmental strategist. During his career, he developed and implemented complex natural resource programs including managing large multi-disciplinary teams, multi-million dollar budgets, and highly visible, collaborative projects throughout the State of California. He dedicated over 13 years to preserving the beautiful natural resources in the Lake Tahoe region via his roles with various agencies including Assistant Executive Director of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, Environmental Scientist for the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, and District Manager for the Tahoe Resource Conservation District. From there, Dave brought his resource conservation talents to private organizations (Marrone Bio Innovations and River Partners) focused on environmental restoration and resources before joining LVMWD. Dave held two bachelor’s degrees: one in Biology/Botany and the other in Business Administration. He enjoyed learning and sharing his knowledge and expertise with others. He was highly engaging and had a talent for igniting interest in others on the topic of resource conservation, even among those who were not familiar with the field. His passion for what he did was apparent in all of his interactions with others.
Most importantly, Dave was a tremendously caring, considerate, and delightful person. He had a contagious sense of humor and a hearty laugh that brought joy to everyone around him. He was our colleague, friend and inspiration. Dave will be forever missed.
