This condolence page is in memory of my lovely husband Chris. Chris had many passions in life, he loved birds, nature and gardens, designing and building anything big or small, lots of sporting activities, motorbikes and socializing with his many friends. He would have loved to continue this for many more years, but sadly he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in December 2019. He leaves many, many beautiful memories of time spent with me, his friends and family.

This photo is from the IVC boys holiday in Cyprus. Chris, who couldn't, swim didn't let that stop him from going on the banana boat ride which we all knew would be flipped over dumping us all into the sea about half a mile off shore. Chris is fifth from the left.

Chris built the only really sexy car we've ever owned. A beautiful, Mk III Spitfire fitted with with an engine he had heavily modified and tuned. It had overdrive, a prop shaft from a Jaguar, flared wheel arches and wide wheels. Typically of Chris it was beautifully put together and filled with an exhaust system he hand built, it not only looked great it had the noise to match. With all that extra power and the wide wheels that wouldn't spin, it went through back axles and differentials at an alarming rate but it was worth it.Sadly we had to swap it for a baby poo coloured Austin Maxi when load carrying became a requirement. But for the three years it was ours we were the coolest couple on the road. Thanks for the memories Chris. Somewhere in his archives are the drawings for a completely original sports car he promised to build one day and we were to be first on the list when it went into production. It would have been hell of a machine designed and built by a fine, practical engineer with an eye for detail and a lot of style. Thinking of you Chris and remembering what it was to be young. Cheers! We have so many happy memories of sharing time with Chris and Janet over the years, numerous walks and BBQs. We were lucky enough to see Chris regularly throughout this last year and witnessed his strength and resilience in combating this awful illness. His ability to keep going and always be busy was amazing. He even built a new shed for Janet in the back garden and certainly didn't do things by halves. That shed's gonna last!! Last years New Years eve party and the wedding celebrations are events that we will always cherish and remember. So thanks Chris, thanks for the memories.... Val and Seamus

The final photo is from Chris and Janet’s wedding celebration, a glorious sunny day in August where guests gathered in their beautiful garden and we were able to come together and raise a glass to the happy couple. In spite of the underlying sadness, it was a very special day and I feel privileged to have shared this day with them.

Just last year, Chris invited eight of us to spend New Year together in the Forest of Dean where we played Chris’ favourite childhood game, ‘puss, puss’ which had us all in hysterics and will be in our memories forever. We then saw the New Year in with a fire on the barbecue, on the balcony, which was the icing on the cake.

They say a photo speaks a thousand words, so here are a few of my memories of Chris. I first met him and Janet back in 2010 on an AOAC conservation weekend down in Exmoor, a weekend full of laughter and rhododendron lopping! Over the years, via ‘the club’, we attended the same social, camping and walking weekends, which were always great fun.

How do we remember Chris? Well Geoff met Chris about 45 years ago at College. They became firm buddies. One of the many memories from those happy days is Chris carrying his bag of buns around all week that his Mum had baked for him. He replenished his stocks on his weekly visits home! Another memory is regarding the beautiful house Chris built. Geoff visited the house just after it was completed and was in awe of what Chris had achieved. Geoff remembers him proudly demonstrating his home built electric reclining bed that he made with some Dexion, a windscreen wiper motor and a light switch! Work came along and paths went slightly different ways until Motorbiking came back into all of our lives. Chris phoned Geoff and off they went for a ride out. That was approx 20 years ago. From then on there have been annual ride outs with me and lovely Janet as well. We have had many happy days out together on our two wheeled machines. We saw some beautiful places together and had some delicious lunches. Chris always ensured we visited a few National Trust properties along the way, a true sign of his affinity with Nature, architecture and wildlife. We will always remember Chris with the map out on the top of his Motorbike seat looking at routes.. Happy times that will be sorely missed but we were very lucky to have them.

We've known Chris about 20 years now and we didn't see each other quite often, but when we met in Holland or the UK it was always with lots of food and drinks. His dry British humor cracked me up every time. I had so much admiration for him, for his sporty stamina, his detailed eye for construction works and how he made my best friend Janet so happy. His words as he and Janet just arrived at in Holland: "Come on, Jan, we need to buy some beers now!" will be forever in my memory!

Chris and I shared a love of motorbikes during our secondary school years, which we used to ride on each others family farms. I have very fond memories of sharing meals with Chris's family in their kitchen at Manworthy Mill. Always a warm and friendly atmosphere with plenty of banter between the family.
