I first got to know Carl when I had the privilege to be Carl’s line manager in the Contracts branch at RAF Brampton in the 1990s. He was a kind and gentle man with a wicked sense of humour. He never seemed to be fazed by anything life or work threw at him remaining calm and philosophical, qualities I greatly admired. He was a conscientious and reliable member of the team and I made several attempts to “ poach “ him to my team when he returned to Wyton - as others have already said “ every team needs a Carl”. Latterly I often bumped into him on his lunchtime walk when the subject of retirement often came up. Sadly he will not now be able to enjoy a well deserved pension after so many years of loyal service. My sincerest condolences to his family.
