Ben O'Donoghue deactivated

Ben, our senior credit controller at Four, died way too young after a battle with cancer on 15 October. Husband to Abby and father to son Kyran and daughter Kya, Ben was a much-liked and respected colleague and friend to many at Four. Described as fearless, entertaining, kind, a great character and an ally, Ben will be sorely missed by many of us. Please post your messages on this page under memories or condolences. And if you have any images or videos to add please do. We will turn the content of this page into a book which we can give to Abby when the time is right.

I remember Ben as a very friendly and patient colleague. He could receive 10 plus phone calls from me daily when I worked on reception. He always pointed me in the right direction of who I needed to speak to and at times times dealt with the not very pleasant callers. He always took the time to say hello and have a chat whenever he passed Sian and me by. Your positive attitude towards life was infectious! It was a pleasure to work with you. Rest in peace x

I remember Ben was an excellent runner and that I once ran into him at my first ever Hackney Half marathon, which he was also taking part in. I was extremely nervous but he was very encouraging and it really helped me start the race in a good mood. His brilliant sense of humour will be missed by all. He never failed to make people smile. I remember Ben as a very patient and helpful individual who would always be there to lend a hand whenever you asked for it. When I first joined the credit control department and as I tried to find my feet, Ben used his wealth of experience to guide me through the finer points of my role with patience and authority. His ill-fated attempt at the Barcelona Ironman, whilst also being a funny story to look back on, will also stick out in my mind as a time when he demonstrated his integrity by deciding not to officially complete the race as he had been helped out of the swim and been allowed time to recuperate before going back out on the bike (Side point: his Lycra shorts when he cycled to work were a sight to behold too!). In short, he was a great colleague/manager with many strings to his bow who was taken way too young. We will miss him greatly. RIP. Matthew

I remember Ben and his family volunteering late on a Friday afternoon to attend a photographic shoot at Walthamstow Wetlands on the following Sunday. The original models had dropped out and we were in a jam. Ben, Abby, Kyran and Kya duly arrived and stayed with us for the whole day, making sure that we had covered everything. It was a very hot July day and we were in the open, but the children performed brilliantly, with extra encouragement and direction from Ben. Without them we wouldn't have made our media deadlines. And the pictures were great. After that, I got to know Ben better and always enjoyed a laugh when we bumped into each other around the office. Rest in peace. John

I recall an occasion when Ben was being super helpful as usual, and decided to distribute the daily fruit supply between the two office kitchens. He then took a bowl and placed it on his head and walked through the busy office "Carman Miranda" style! Your antics will be missed by all, Ben. Rest in eternal peace. Marcia.
