I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Deon and my warmest condolences go out to his family and friends. Deon introduced me to the South African assessment community in 2005 and was such a gracious host—and the professional networks he forged remain to this day. His work and writing has had a positive impact not just there in South Africa, but internationally, as a model for how assessment can be a tool for social responsibility and positive social change. He has left a permanent and important mark on our field, yet will be sorely missed. Again, my warmest condolences.
