Dara Goldman

February 21, 1971 - May 13, 2022

Dara Goldman, Associate Professor of Spanish and Director of the Program for Jewish Culture and Society, was a brilliant and collaborative scholar with additional affiliations in many units on campus, including the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS), which she also directed on two occasions, Gender and Women’s Studies, Comparative and World Literature, the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory, and Women and Gender in Global Perspectives. A kind and generous colleague and friend to all who knew her, she will be remembered for bringing people together, and for her laughter, positivity, and wit. Que en paz descanse, may she rest in peace, and may her memory be for a blessing.

My sincerest condolences for you at this time. Dr. Goldman has been an inspiration to me throughout my undergrad years. Just a few weeks ago when she came up to me at the Spanish and Portuguese award ceremony, I was reflecting on her impact on me as an instructor since it had been a semester since I had taken a course with her. She seemed to have really enjoyed the new course she taught this Spring. She was my professor the first fall semester since COVID had started and made an effort to turn her online course hybrid, and I have really fond memories of class outdoors with her. I aim to be a Spanish teacher, and her classes have been an inspiration to me because of her flexibility with classroom structure but also due to her always providing more opportunities to learn through events and through optional lectures she recorded herself. She has always gone above and beyond as a teacher and has always been an amazing person whose memory I cherish.
