Dear Abbey,
It's hard to imagine a more energetic, loving and down to earth person than your father. He was one of a kind. He was kind and gentle. He was smart and quick witted. He worked incredibly hard, but always laughed harder. He was always keen to learn and constantly looking for, and creating, opportunities. I wish you had the opportunity to see the man your father was.
I remember a discussion we once had about finding a sense of place in the world. I believe we all ask these questions from time to time. I mention it here, because if you ever find yourself similarly stuck or conflicted, I think your Dad would advise you to: take your time, that small steps do count, to stay true to who you are and what you love, and finally to keep your chin up (and always over the ball).
Optimistic, humble and kind. That is how I will remember your Dad.
He has been taken too early from all of us, but especially from you and your mum, Ciara. I take some comfort in knowing that his spirit shines through you and will continue to shine through you as you grow up into the incredible young woman I know you will become.
And regarding finding his place... well, I think he finally found it. In you and your Mum. I am honoured that I had the opportunity to meet your father and even prouder to call him a friend.
Vale Carmo. Vale.
