Dan and I became friends when my family relocated in 1990, my dad, then a staff of IRS (now GRA), was transferred to Accra and we lived in the IRS enclave in East Cantonments. I enrolled into the same school where Dan and his siblings (Richard & Dora) also were. Being new to the school and class (Primary 4) Dan ensured I was comfortable and introduced me to his friends (Puplampu, Enoch etc). We became close friends and were seen together most of the time. Whether it was a game of piloloo, hide-and-seek or climbing the coconut and tropical almond trees, or taking tests and exam at school, Dan was good at what he did and certainly had some majestic touch, that was the genesis of the name Cocotee back in JHS. Dan & I were in the same class from primary 4 through to JHS 3, we were both in the spelling bee and drama (By the Fireside) teams at Kotoka JHS and after BECE we were both admitted to Adisadel College in 1997. We both joined Knight House and as fate would have it, we were both placed in the same class, from SHS 1 to SHS3. After Adisadel we both received admission into the University of Ghana and though we had just a course in common we saw each other occassionally on campus. Daniel was an exceptional leader, he led by example, very fair to all, did not discriminate and was firm. He love family as he loved sports (tennis and football) and Daniel took me through my first lessons in tennis back in the day at East Cantonments. I owe my interest in tennis to Daniel, we played occasionally at Adisadel and even more frequently when we entered Legon. After Uni however, work took Dan out of Accra and though we would occasionally chat we couldn't keep in touch regularly. During the death of my parents late last year, we reconnected again as I had not seen Dan in years. We started chatting again. To hear of his sudden demise the morning of 23rd May 2020, was a SHOCK! The Lord knows best however. A great loss to us, a great loss to his family a great loss to the Santclausian fraternity. Fare thee well brother. Dan, requiescat in pace!
Dani has been like a brother since we met at Donkorkrom in 2008. The only person who always calls Me Mr. ASOMANING. We have been very close since and mostly with him during the weekends watching football with him and sometimes going out with his kids. My Chief Abusuapayin who encouraged me to marry and was with me throughout the whole process. We had very lovely road trips from his Opel right down to the highlander. Never missed one of his cars and the joy we travelled with. Words alone cannot express how deep our relationship went and who he meant to me. They say the Good Die young. Never believed till I lost a a true brother and friend. REST IN PERFECT PEACE IN THE BOSOM OF THE GOOD LORD.
I remember how you use to tease me when i lived with your lovely family in Sakumono. Anytime i find myself in some trouble, there you come along annoyingly teasing me saying Yaa Ky3 Odikro, Yaa Ky3 Odikro and that laugh oooo Dan it was soo annoying but now keeps echoing! Forever in our thoughts. Hmmm
It vividly recall moments when Danny will journey from Donkorkrom to Asamama and Kumasi with me from his yellow Opel car to his Golf. I was so proud when around him especially when i am introduced as his lil brother. I attended most of his lifetime events with him till he left Afram Plains. Aww Danny i miss how u will call me "teacher Ab3" and i will chant back "oh bro, that is not my name" all those rides together through the night till we get to Kumasi to catch a good rest at home. The memoris keep unfolding but i have to keep it short. Bro Rest in Peace till we meet again. Your boy is really bruised
I remember in May 2012 , i recieved a call from a fellow Santa (Roland Amarh ) ,that Cocotee wanted my number ,cos he seen my status on Facebook that i have been transferred to sunyani. This is the beginning of our friendship, he always acted as my elder bro( but i grow pass am too). He advised me to get married and also let my family join me in sunyani. I remember what always says to me; "charley wife and kiddies dey houseoo" . We share great moments together.
