Carl Storr

December 26, 1963 - June 3, 2020

Carl was a gentle man. He spoke sparingly but with wisdom and humour which endeared him to many of us. Although his wisdom was slightly more questionable when it came to football, (him being an Arsenal fan and all) and American Football (Miami Dolphins) sport brought him great pleasure. In a purely watching capacity! He travelled through life with a wonderful balance of kindness, calmness and a level of contentedness that many of us envied. Sadly, after a 37 year career in the Civil Service Carl passed suddenly last week. Given the man that he was, many of you will want to leave your thoughts, pictures and condolences here for his family to see. We are grateful for the time we spent with Carl and will miss him greatly.

    2. Cheryl Pomfret .. “I was fortunate to have Carl as my Line Manager for my last 3 1/2 years in my MoD career at Wyton. What a man! I can only echo what so many have said previously. Caring, supportive, with a wealth of knowledge that he was only too happy to share. He loved to follow different sports. If he planned any leave, you always knew that it would be to watch sport. Horse Racing, Wimbledon, Football - Arsenal in particular. It was always to watch, although after a bad Arsenal result, he would comment that he should have taken his boots with him and joined in the game. The most prominent memory I have of Carl though is his wonderful sense of humour! He LOVED to laugh. His face would go red, his shoulders would shake - the tears of laughter we shared over so many things. And so varied! Whenever I see or hear Shaun the Sheep, I think of Carl. My thoughts are with his Mum and the rest of his family. He used to speak of them often. The current Covid situation is making funeral arrangements so difficult. If it were possible, there would be so many people who would want to be with you to pay their respects to such a wonderful human being. I hope you find some comfort from these message and memories”. “Rest in Peace Carl, one of the best!”.

I worked with Carl for most of the last 10 years both in the Air Commodities Team in Bristol and for DIO at Wyton so knew Carl well. Carl was a fantastic colleague and an absolute please to work with. Carl's knowledge of Commercial was second to none and over the years he was always a great help to me and every other member of the team. Carl always remained calm, level-headed and had a good sense of humour. I really enjoyed chatting to Carl about sport particularly Football, Tennis, Cricket and even American Football as he was a Miami Dolphins fan. Carl will therefore be greatly missed by me, I would like to express my sincere condolences to Carl's family on his passing. Best Wishes Roger Hannam

I had the privilege of working with Carl at Abbey Wood in the Air Commodities team. When I needed the right answer or a job done quickly and efficiently Carl was always my first Go To team member, he never let me down. RIP

As has been mentioned Carl had a lovely sense of humour. When I worked with him in the late 2000s he would put his car in the garage every night. In winter he liked to hear the sound of other people scraping their car windows in the morning as he drove off to work! I always think of him when I hear people scraping their cars in the morning. He also had an extensive knowledge of EastEnders. I would listen to him and Julie discussing the latest storyline with wonder!

Carl, you were the go-to person who would always find an answer. You have the respect & admiration of the DIO Alconbury team, you will be sorely missed and a hard act to follow. The gentle, gentleman.
