Sincere sympathies to Bryan, Stephen, Jennifer, John, Joan, Monica and the extended McAuliffe and Bradley families and many friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad and difficult time.
It was such a shock to hear of Breda’s passing. I knew Breda before I came to Cork nearly 20 years ago. I worked beside her as a colleague and then as her manager for many years in the Department of Agriculture. Like myself, Breda was compulsory redeployed in 2012 and we started a new journey in the Inspectorate at Hanover Street. Moving from Agriculture to Social Welfare was not an easy transition and I will be forever grateful for Breda’s support as we travelled this path together.
Breda will be fondly known for her wit and good humour. I am so glad to have very fond memories of nights out and sing songs, narration of funny incidents, match reviews, interesting anecdotes, and memorable guffaws. Breda, a character that is rare with an outlook on life that enabled her to live in the moment and a voice that would touch your soul. Breda had many more characteristics, a loving wife and mum, sister and daughter. When it came to work Breda was highly respected, dedicated and hard working with a light-hearted flare thrown in to keep the show on the road. She had the ability to make a bad situation good. Breda was a safe pair of hands.
Like many, I feel wounded by Breda’s sudden passing. We have all lost a good friend and a loyal colleague who was never afraid to put a spanner in the works to stand up for the underdog. Our work family will never be the same.
I count my blessings to have had the pleasure of knowing Breda on my journey.
What is rare is wonderful!
Breda, may your gentle soul rest peacefully. Xx Susan Conroy
