Bernadette grew up in Senegal and always knew she would dedicate her life to human rights. Over her 20 years with the UN, she was a force of nature and inspires so many of us to be thoughtful, patient, and, most of all, brave, just like her. Bernadette saved lives, and was the best of us working in human rights. Even in her passing, she will continue to be a light that reminds us to stand strong in our values, and have courage. She is survived by her beloved husband and two sons, and her cherished family across Senegal, the US, and the UN.
