This is so difficult for me to write and I have tears in my eyes as I’m doing it. I only wish Rebecca was here to understand and comprehend what she meant to all her family and friends, old and new, and to hear all the amazing things they are saying about her. Born on 9 October 1986, she was the absolute apple of her mum and dad’s eyes. She certainly could do no wrong and they were incredibly proud of her. They loved and cared for her as she grew up in to a beautiful and stunning young woman, more than she would ever know. Her mum Mary and I had so many conversations about Rebecca and her life. Her mum was always fiercely protective of her, which I loved. So many times we laughed and cried together over her. I know that Rebecca was absolutely devastated when her mum passed away. She struggled so much with this and I don’t think she ever got over it, but she did learn to live with it as she knew how much her mum loved and cared about her. I also know that when Rebecca’s brother Chris was born, she was so unbelievably proud of him. She protected him all her life and they shared some great times together and these should be cherished. The bond that she and her brother had is so difficult to put into words, but I know that although they drove each other mad at times (as most brothers and sisters do) it was a very very unique and special relationship and like all of us Chris will miss her so much.
Although Rebecca and I lost touch over the years, I do know that she was so immensely proud when her beautiful daughter Bella was born. Someone who she adored and loved for ever and who both became the best of friends. Rebecca can rest assured that she is now being cared for by her amazing and loving dad, Auntie Angie and brother Chris.
In the early years, I shared so many happy and funny memories with Rebecca and her family. Just a few to mention, holidays abroad (Spain and France), birthdays and Christmases. Yes, Rebecca’s parents Michael and Mary put on the most amazing events on such occasions and Rebecca was always at her best at such times.
My son Adam, would keep me up to date with what Rebecca was up to in her life. I know they both had many conversations on Facebook over the years and for that I’m so grateful. So, so many times, I wanted to reach out to Rebecca, but didn’t have the courage to do it. Let that be a lesson to all of us. Do it and “don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today”. I regret and have so much remorse that I didn’t make more effort to see her.
She had the most incredible family and friends in the Jones’s and O’Neill’s. They were always there for her no matter what. For all those Bablake girls who I know Rebecca adored, who stuck by her through thick and thin and who she shared so many precious memories with. These were happy times for Rebecca, so I can only thank them all for the help and support they gave to Rebecca.
Simply Rebecca , there are not enough words to describe you. Loving, caring, affectionate, enthusiastic, adored and incredibly intelligent. Someone who was passionate about life and knew who own mind. I will find comfort in the treasured memories we had together.
