Tribute To Bassey Solomon Ekpoh
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?” John 11:25-26(NLT)
I met Bassey a few years ago on our university alumni CU/NIFES platform. I’d shared views that borders on Christianity and politics on the platform and like it is common on Christian platforms, quite a few people shouted ‘this is a Christian platform, we don’t discuss politics here’. When I was kicked out of the platform for persisting that Christians needed to know what was happening in our country so as to know how to pray and affect the spiritual climate of the nation, quite a few people contacted me and asked me to continue sharing my posts with them. Bassey was one of them.
Bassey is an embodiment of love. He actually became like a son to me and the fact that I won’t hear the sound of his voice calling me ‘mom’ again is almost scary.
He was an embodiment of life, the life of Jesus manifest in a human being. He exuded the life that the scriptures told us to live as believers.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatian 5:22-23
All these describes Bassey.
Bassey was a wonderful husband and father to which his lovely wife Nancy bears testament.
For a full week after I got the news of his death, I couldn’t sleep. That is serious because I’d learned and taught people for years that Philippians 4:6( Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done) is to be taken literal and when we take it literal it literally becomes life and health to us. Everyone close to me knows that nothing takes away my sleep.
But Bassey’s death did. There was so much that I and my son were yet to do.
I had to go to God to ask what happened and He said He had taken His son to be with Him. We were gearing to go into business together- the Lord said He had sealed that chapter and His son was home safe.
And when I wanted to know what I should say about why a young person who loved God the way Bassey did should die young, I was given John 11:25-26. That restored my peace.
Bassey is not dead. Every one who lives in Christ and believes in Christ will never die. Bassey wasn’t a church goer. He had a one on one relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He lived in Christ and believes in Christ. He isn’t dead. He is alive forever.
What a relief.
I love you son,
