Barbara Ann Bienfang, 77 of Cedar Creek, Texas formerly of Lyons, Illinois passed Sunday, April, 1st , 2018, in Austin, Texas. Barbara (or “Barb”) was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 18th 1940, the daughter of Adam Edward “Ed” Szalkowski & Helen (Kuklinski) Szalkowski. She was a retired nurse of over 50 years serving at Golden Age Retirement Home in Lyons, Illinois, The British Home in Brookfield, Illinois, The Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse in LaGrange Park, Illinois as well as many others. Barbara volunteered for several years at BEDS PLUS in Chicago’s western suburbs, served as president of her local chapter of the Polish Women’s Alliance of America (now known as First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association) and founded and acted as president of Bastrop’s Bingo Club for a period of time . She was a member of Bastrop’s Senior Center as well. Barb belonged to the congregations of Zion Lutheran Church in Lyons, Illinois as well as Cedar Creek United Methodist Church in Cedar Creek, Texas. She liked the color purple,going out to eat, drawing flowers, doing Search-a-Word puzzles, and sending cards to those she cared about for special occasions or for no reason in particular. Barbara is survived by her blood relations: sister Jean Zurow, her children Darrell and Ramona Bienfang and her grandchildren Nicole and Leeann Bienfang as well as extended family. Ms. Bienfang was preceded in death by both her parents, and her ex-husband Wilbur Bienfang.
