Anne McLeod

June 15, 1967 - May 29, 2020

In memory of our much loved colleague of 17 years, Anne McLeod (Senior Lecturer in Critical Care and Programme Director for Adult Nursing at City, University of London). Anne embodied the best qualities of a nurse academic; she was hard working, loyal, resourceful and had a fantastic sense of humour. Anne was an exceptionally compassionate and caring person who was always mindful of the welfare of those around her. Anne’s fierce advocacy for students was at the heart of everything she did. Her spirit will live on in the thousands of City nursing students she taught, and their contributions to healthcare will be her lasting legacy. We will miss Anne so very much; our thoughts are with her family and friends at this incredibly sad and difficult time.

I met Anne during my post graduate Critical Care study. She was a force to be reckoned in the lecture hall and such an abundant source of knowledge to her students. She was a such intelligent and powerful character, and has taught me so much during my time at City university. I still remember fondly her humour and shrewdness and she will be dearly missed by many she had so powerfully touched. Rest in peace Anne we will miss you x

Anne was my mentor whilst I was doing my final year dissertation in City and was amazing. She had a great sense of humour and wit. She was ferociously intelligent and contributed so much to nursing. She could spot an error from a mile away and would usually tell you via humour (or a rather serious stare). I later had her as a postgraduate intensive care nurse and learned so much from her. I feel it is such a loss to nursing at this time and believe the rest of us will have to work extra hard for her.

What a woman! Anne was a compassionate and warm person, with a twinkle in her eye and good humor. She was my tutor at City University and has supported me through some tough times, without her, I am not sure I would have been as confident as a nursing student that I am today. She would listen and you know she heard you. She was truly honest, open and you knew that you would always get proper advice from her and even if it was not always what you wanted to hear, your best interest was on her mind. Anne will be so missed by every student, she touched and cared about every single one of us. Here's to a brilliant, strong, and amazing woman. Anne we miss you.

I met Anne in 2012 when I began my Nursing degree at City University. I was fortunate enough to have Anne as mentor for the duration of my undergrad and post grad courses. I remember a class at university when Anne and I were having a talk about a patient scenario when she recommended I take the critical care module with her - 5 years later and I'm still loving critical care nursing, and I have you to thank. You were a fantastic lecturer, mentor and a dear friend to me. Your guidance, encouragement and friendship meant so much. Losing you is a huge blow personally and for all the nurses you have touched during in your career. You were simply one of a kind and I will miss you dearly. I hope you are up there with Cookie and Oreo, rolling your eyes at me and making your witty jokes! Rest in peace Anne x

I worked with Anne from 2003 to 2010. She was the perfect colleague being so positive, the epitome of the art of the possible. Whenever we were working on a clinical skills or research project together she would always say ‘we can do that’ and we did! Anne was totally reliable, if she said she would do something she always came up with the goods, and on time! All those who work in nursing or in education would appreciate what an important quality that is and how supportive it is to work with someone upon whom you can totally rely. Above all Anne was a joy to work with. Much has been said about her sense of humour. It pervaded her whole personality and her sense of irony and timing were second to none. Anne touched so many lives. We will all miss her but should also be thankful that our lives were enriched by knowing her. Rest in Peace Anne.

I am still in shock after hearing Anne's passing. Although I only had a few interactions with her, she always left a positive impact on students. Her sence of humour, smile, empathy was always felt by all students. I was looking forward to her lectures this year and for more help and support but it wasn't meant to be. I pray for Anne's family, coleages and friends during this difficult time.

Although i am only first year student, Anne cared so much about absolutely every student. She always put her students first and did everything in her power to ensure we are happy and comfortable. She went out of her way to arrange a better placement for me. A brilliant and fabulous lady with a heart of pure gold. Rest in peace Anne x

The fact she’s gone still doesn’t feel real. I still expect to see her in September for 3rd year. The last time I saw Anne, I asked her to promise she’d teach us some modules, she said this certainly won’t be our last lecture/seminar together. I cannot even put into words how much I am gonna miss her. She made my university experience one that I loved. She was so cunning and witty and so professional. She was everything I would aspire to be. Once I found her in the university coffee shop, I offered to buy her a coffee; to which she responded “you cannot bribe me into giving you a better grade on the essay”. She truly was a bundle of laughs. Hands down, the most honest, approachable, professional and proficient woman. You truly will be one tough act to follow and have left tonnes of memories which I’ll treasure. Forever in our hearts. Rest in peace Anne McLeod ♥️

Such sad news and a big loss to the nursing profession. Anne was such a kind and thoughtful person. She went above and beyond to help others. I remember on a number of occasions when she helped me during my time as a student at City University. It was her support and understanding that enabled me to complete my nursing studies. Condolences to the family.

Anne was an amazing mentor. As a student, she would always give me the time of day. She would always reply to my frantic and panicky emails, non-judgementally. She was a great support throughout my course, placements and dissertation. Her soft voice and no nonsense attitude make her great to confide in and ease your mind. A great person has been lost. Rest in peace Anne xxx

I first met Anne around 15 years ago when I was a Senior Sister at the Royal London adult critical care unit. We got on instantly and worked together, especially on all things neuro, so well. She was an incredibly intelligent, fun and warm person. I cant believe I am writing this about someone who was so full of life. She will be so missed by so many people.

Anne was one of the lecturers all City students, past and present, remember most and she is thought of fondly in many hospital wards. Her legacy will live on through her teaching. As my personal tutor, I knew she truly cared about us students and wanted us to have the best learning and experience in spite of the situation in the world. This has been a difficult year but Anne guided us final year nursing students through much of it. Condolences to all her family, friends, colleagues, and students.
