Anne was born in Holland, MI to Edith and Mert de Velder, the youngest of three children. She went to Hope College in Michigan, and Columbia University in New York. She met her husband of 42 years, a dancer, John Dayger, in New York while working as a costume designer. Anne and John had one child, Catherine, and they travelled the world on tour with Lar Lubovitch Dance Company. Anne, John, and Catherine moved to Holland, MI where they lived for 7 years until Anne was recruited by the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. John and Anne moved to Champaign, where Anne headed the Costume Technology graduate program for 17 years. After retiring, Anne and John moved to Vancouver, WA to be closer to daughter Catherine, her husband Scot, and granddaughter Nova.
